A real simple and quick idea using basic materials and skills. A perfect project to get the kids involved in to. You can make cards, gift tags, garlands, tree decorations, table placements, the list is endless and great for getting your creative energy fired up in time for the festivities.
Materials needed
an assortment of different coloured and patterned paper
an array of different sized circles to draw round, bottle caps, plastic cups, yoghurt pots are ideal
a black pen
a pencil
a pair of scissors
glue or glue tape or dots work well for this
an assortment of buttons
coloured pens
string or ribbon blank cards
plain card, a card board box will do for table placements and the gift tags
Once you have gathered your materials let the creativity begin!
To create baubles to make and design your Christmas cards
begin by drawing around the bottle caps and other round objects on your paper.
once you have done a selection, using you scissors cut out the circles.
If you are making Christmas cards, arrange either a large single round shape in the centre half way down the card. You can also add 1 or 2 smaller ones if there is room. Lay these on a differing heights. Once you are happy with the positioning, stick them on with glue. (I used glue dots and tape)
Using either a black pen or your preferred colour pen draw a line from the top of the card down to the top of one the circle so it is in the middle of the top of the circle so it looks like it is hanging down. Repeat with all of the circles on the card. See the video below on how your design should look.
To create Christmas gift tags and table placements
Cut your card to the required tag size and using one of the smaller circles create your hanging bauble design like on the cards above. Using a hole punch if you have one, create a hole to attach your ribbon, alternatively you can use glue or Sellotape to attach your ribbon.
For table placements, cut your card to your required size (for example 10 cm x 8cm) fold the piece of card in half ( 5cm x 8cm) and you can add a paper bauble as before.
Using pens ribbon, or any other embellishments you have to hand to create your own unique designs.
You can also cut out squares to create parcels, the options are endless.
Paper angel tree decorations and garlands
For this you will require 3 circles of the same size.
Fold all three circles in half
open one circle to allow another circle inside
The straight edges are on the outside
Push the tops together so the form a point and the bottoms flare outwards (See photo below)
Add a little glue inside to each of the two circles and press firmly
The third circle acts as the wings on the angel so the straight edge id the top
Attach this to the other joined circles using glue
get a 12cm piece of string and form a loop and glue this to the back at the top on the wings
glue a button on the front to create a face, if you have a large wooden bead you can add that as a head.
You can hang these individually on the tree or add them on to a piece of string to create a garland. Again you can make these any size you wish.
You can also use paper doilies if you have them. Have fun making and creating!
